Jammu, June 9, 2025 – Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha inaugurated a transformative mass distribution drive of aids and appliances for Divyangjan , organised by the Directorate of Social Welfare, Jammu. This initiative, under the centrally sponsored Rashtriya Vayoshri Yojana (RVY) and Assistance to Disabled Persons for Purchase/Fitting of Aids/Appliances (ADIP) schemes, aims to uplift senior citizens with disabilities and empower Divyangjan by enhancing their mobility, independence, and quality of life.
The program distributed essential assistive devices, including wheelchairs, hearing aids, prosthetic limbs, and walking aids, tailored to the specific needs of beneficiaries. These efforts reflect the Government of India (GOI) and Jammu & Kashmir Union Territory (UT) Administration’s commitment to fostering inclusivity, equality, and accessibility for all.
Addressing the gathering, LG Sinha celebrated the unique strengths of Divyangjan, stating, “People with disabilities possess remarkable abilities, resilience, and empathy that enrich our society. They are equal partners in our progress, and we are dedicated to ensuring they have every opportunity to thrive.” He reaffirmed the administration’s pledge to provide equal rights, access, and dignity, promising to dismantle physical, digital, and social barriers that hinder inclusion.
The RVY scheme targets senior citizens with age-related disabilities, offering tools to address challenges like impaired vision, hearing, or mobility. The ADIP scheme supports Divyangjan across age groups by providing high-quality aids at no cost, ensuring accessibility for all. These initiatives aim to eliminate systemic inequities and create an inclusive environment where everyone can contribute and prosper.
LG Manoj Sinha emphasised personalised support, saying, “The GOI and J&K UT Administration are committed to fairness and opportunities tailored to the individual needs of our senior citizens and Divyangjan.” He vowed to personally ensure the removal of accessibility barriers, making Jammu and Kashmir a model of social inclusion.
Beneficiaries and community leaders praised the initiative for its impact on empowering Divyangjan and improving lives. The Directorate of Social Welfare, Jammu, partnered with organizations like the Artificial Limbs Manufacturing Corporation of India (ALIMCO) to deliver devices efficiently to pre-identified recipients.
LG Manoj Sinha concluded, “We will continue to work relentlessly to ensure every Divyangjan and senior citizen in Jammu and Kashmir has the tools and opportunities to live with dignity and pride.”
