SRINAGAR , September 5, 2025- Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha addressed a Teachers’ Day celebration in Srinagar, paying tribute to former President and renowned educationist Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan while felicitating 11 outstanding teachers from across the Kashmir division. The event, held to honor educators’ contributions, highlighted the critical role of education in fostering sustainable development and societal progress.In his keynote address, LG Sinha emphasized the need for a balanced approach to economic growth and environmental protection, stating, “The balance between economic growth and environment protection is the key for prosperity and social equity. Our education system should emphasize that our natural resources are finite, and youth need to work on preserving ecosystems and biodiversity.” He urged educational institutions to integrate climate change as a compulsory subject and promote field experience through initiatives like the Green Jammu Kashmir Drive to instill values of living in harmony with nature.
The Lieutenant Governor felicitated five teachers with silver medals and a cash prize of Rs 50,000 each for their exceptional contributions, while six others, including a specially-abled teacher, received certificates of appreciation. He called on teachers to foster creativity, critical thinking, and life skills in students, noting, “A teacher is the biggest revolutionary, breaking barriers to spark new thinking in young minds.” He stressed that education should prioritize originality and curiosity over mere competition, preparing students for a rapidly changing world.LG Sinha also addressed the growing challenges of natural calamities, urging schools to collaborate with local communities on nature-based solutions and improve early warning systems for disaster resilience. “The fury of nature is increasing.
Youth must take responsibility for creating a balance between nature and development,” he said, advocating for curriculum changes to reflect these priorities.The event, attended by senior officials and educators, underscored the administration’s commitment to strengthening Jammu and Kashmir’s education system while aligning it with the vision of Naya Kashmir. Director of School Education Kashmir, Tassaduq Mir, highlighted the success of the Talaash scheme, which enrolled nearly two lakh students in government schools, reflecting efforts to ensure inclusive education.LG Sinha’s message resonated with the ethos of Teachers’ Day, celebrating educators as architects of a sustainable and equitable future for Jammu and Kashmir.
