In the field of higher education, infrastructure is not merely about buildings and facilities; at its core, it is about students and teachers. Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha recently emphasised this vision while addressing an event at the Central University of Kashmir. His words highlighted the vital role of faculty members in shaping the future of students and, through them, the nation. This year, as India celebrated the 79th anniversary of Independence on 15th August, the Lieutenant Governor reminded that the coming 22 years leading to the centenary of independence present a golden opportunity for the nation. He expressed hope that institutions like the Central University of Kashmir would reach new heights of excellence and international recognition. According to him, the responsibility lies primarily on the shoulders of the faculty to fulfil this vision with dedication. LG Sinha stressed that the National Education Policy 2020 is the most powerful tool to transform higher education. By ensuring its 100 percent implementation and aligning all courses with its framework, universities can bring about the most significant change. Research and innovation, which often remain limited to papers, can now find recognition on the international stage. Citing recent studies on technological advancements, LG Sinha noted that the progress made in the 21st century is equal to nearly 20,000 years of human evolution and change. With rapid growth in science, technology, and innovation, he emphasised the need for a growth model focused on building stronger human capital. He further underlined the importance of interdisciplinary courses, as they enhance creativity, innovation, skills, and critical thinking while also instilling social and moral responsibility in students. This holistic approach, he said, is the essence of the National Education Policy, which envisions producing well-rounded individuals with balanced perspectives. Reflecting on the past 8–10 years, LG Sinha credited the honorable Prime Minister of India for establishing several premier educational institutions in Jammu & Kashmir. These steps have reshaped the educational map of the Union Territory, laying the foundation for a brighter future. In conclusion, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha’s vision for higher education in Jammu & Kashmir is clear: universities must not only impart knowledge but also nurture innovation, ethical responsibility, and global competitiveness. With full implementation of NEP 2020 and commitment from teachers and students alike, Jammu & Kashmir has the potential to become a hub of educational excellence for the nation and the world.
