On the solemn occasion of ‘Police Commemoration Day,’ Lieutenant Governor Shri Manoj Sinha alongside J&K’s former Chief Minister Shri Omar Abdullah paid heartfelt tribute to the courageous police officers and personnel who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty. During a wreath-laying ceremony at the Martyr’s Memorial, Armed Police Complex, Zewan, the LG honoured these brave souls and also remembered the civilians martyred in the tragic Gagangir terror attack. “I salute the bravehearts of our Police. Their legacy will live on in our hearts. On this day, let us commit ourselves to uphold the values they stood for—courage, unity, and service to the nation,” said LG Manoj Sinha, highlighting the unyielding spirit of those who served selflessly. He acknowledged the unparalleled contribution of the Jammu and Kashmir Police and Security Forces in ensuring a safe and secure environment for the citizens. He emphasised the importance of the role they play in maintaining peace, paying tribute not only to the fallen heroes but also to their families, whose sacrifices are deeply felt. Reiterating his commitment to the welfare of police personnel and their families, he said, “Our promise to you and to the entire region is to carry forward the legacy of peace and stability that our brave soldiers fought so hard to protect.” Reflecting on the transformational journey of Jammu and Kashmir under the leadership of Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, LG Shri Manoj Sinha urged every citizen to stand united against those who seek to disturb the peace. He commended the police and security forces for their relentless fight against terrorism, which has brought normalcy to the region, paving the way for development and economic growth. “Success of our Police and security forces in combating terrorism has brought normalcy to J&K, paving the way for rapid development and economic growth,” he remarked. He further highlighted how peace and stability have facilitated the smooth conduct of significant events, including Parliamentary Elections, J&K Assembly polls, and the peaceful Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra. He called on the youth—the torchbearers of the future—to seize the opportunities created by this newfound peace. “It is time for all to leverage the dividends of this peace, especially the youth, who are the future of this region. Let us pledge to support our Police, Army, and CAPFs as they continue to safeguard our safety and well-being,” he urged. Also emphasised the need for police officials and personnel to continuously strengthen the monitoring and response mechanisms, particularly in addressing crimes against women, children, and vulnerable sections of society. He urged strict action and constant vigilance to uphold justice and security. Furthermore, he proposed launching a dedicated campaign for a drug-free Jammu and Kashmir, recognising the devastating impact of drug abuse on society. He also called for enhanced training and re-skilling programs to improve police capabilities in counter-terrorism operations, ensuring that the forces remain vigilant and effective. On this solemn day, the Director General of Police (DGP) J&K, Sh. Nalin Prabhat, honoured the martyrs by reading out the names of police officers who attained martyrdom in the past year while upholding law and order. A two-minute silence was observed, and arms were reversed as a mark of respect to the fallen heroes. The LG also visited a blood donation camp organised to mark the occasion, reinforcing the spirit of service and community that runs deep within the police and security forces. His visit to the camp symbolised the dedication and resilience that continues to define the police force’s commitment to the welfare of the people. The Police Commemoration Day stands as a reminder of the sacrifices made by the brave hearts, and an inspiration to remain united in the pursuit of peace, development, and harmony in Jammu and Kashmir.
