J&K LG Manoj Sinha flags off garbage collection vehicles in Jammu

Jammu, March 27, 2025 – Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha launched a fleet of door-to-door garbage collection vehicles in a ceremony held at Raj Bhavan, marking a significant step toward improving waste management in the Jammu Municipal area. The four vehicles, donated by ICICI Bank and ICICI Foundation, were formally handed over to the Jammu Municipal Corporation as part of a Corporate Social Responsibility initiative.

Speaking at the event, Lieutenant Governor Sinha commended ICICI Bank and ICICI Foundation for their contributions to enhancing the efficiency of waste collection and promoting cleanliness in Jammu. “This initiative reflects a shared commitment to building a cleaner and healthier environment for the people of Jammu and Kashmir,” he said, emphasising the importance of such public-private partnerships in urban development.

Shri Sandeep Sharma, Zonal Head of ICICI Bank for Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh, informed the Lieutenant Governor that the bank has extended its CSR efforts beyond Jammu, donating two additional garbage collection vehicles to the Municipal Committee Basohli. These efforts align with the bank’s broader mission to support sustainable civic infrastructure across the Union Territory.

The flagging-off ceremony was attended by senior officials, including Shri Ramesh Kumar, Divisional Commissioner Jammu, and Shri Devansh Yadav, Municipal Commissioner Jammu, alongside other dignitaries. The vehicles are expected to bolster the JMC’s capacity to manage solid waste effectively, addressing a critical need in the rapidly urbanising region.

This initiative comes as part of ongoing efforts by the administration, under Lieutenant Governor Sinha’s leadership, to prioritize sanitation and environmental sustainability in Jammu and Kashmir. The addition of these vehicles is anticipated to streamline door-to-door waste collection, reduce littering, and contribute to the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan’s goals at the local level.

The collaboration between ICICI Bank, ICICI Foundation, and municipal authorities underscores the growing role of CSR in addressing civic challenges. With the new fleet now operational, residents of Jammu and Basohli can expect improved waste management services, reinforcing the region’s commitment to cleanliness and public health.
