Srinagar, September 15 , 2025: Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha flagged off the first dedicated Parcel Train service from Budgam Railway Station to Adarsh Nagar, Delhi, calling it a historic step for the region’s apple growers and traders.
Expressing gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the LG said, “I am grateful to Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi ji for ushering in a new era of trade and business for apple growers and traders of the Valley. This initiative will significantly reduce transit time, increase income opportunities for thousands of farmers, and boost the agricultural economy of the region.”
The newly launched Joint Parcel Product–Rapid Cargo Service (JPP-RCS) aims to provide a faster, cost-effective, and reliable mode of transportation for Kashmir’s horticultural produce, especially apples, to major markets across India.
Officials highlighted that the service will not only enhance market linkages but also strengthen the logistics and supply chain infrastructure of Jammu and Kashmir, ensuring better returns for farmers and reducing post-harvest losses.
The introduction of the parcel train marks a major milestone in promoting agriculture, trade, and economic growth in the Union Territory, reinforcing the government’s commitment to empowering farmers and expanding opportunities in the Valley’s horticulture sector.
