Jammu, July 28 — Amid spiritual chants and patriotic fervour, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha flagged off the first batch of pilgrims for the annual Baba Budda Amarnath Yatra from Bhagwati Nagar Yatri Niwas in Jammu on Sunday. Devotees from across India gathered with devotion and excitement as they began their journey to the revered Baba Budda Amarnath shrine, located in Rajpura village in Poonch district.
The Lieutenant Governor, accompanied by senior officials from the administration and security forces, performed a brief puja and interacted with pilgrims before waving off the first fleet of buses under tight security arrangements.
Speaking at the flag-off, LG Sinha said the yatra symbolises unity, peace, and spiritual strength, and reflects Jammu and Kashmir’s commitment to preserving its rich cultural and religious traditions.
“This yatra is not just a religious journey; it is a symbol of our collective faith and resilience. The administration is fully committed to ensuring a safe and peaceful pilgrimage,” he said.
Pilgrims, many of whom were undertaking the trek for the first time, expressed deep gratitude toward the Jammu and Kashmir administration, Indian Army, CRPF, and local police for ensuring a secure and smooth passage.
“We feel safe and proud to be part of this spiritual journey. The arrangements are excellent, and the spirit of brotherhood is truly inspiring,” said Mohan Lal, a pilgrim from Rajasthan.
The Baba Budda Amarnath shrine, dedicated to Lord Shiva, is one of the most sacred pilgrimage sites in Jammu and Kashmir. Situated in the Pir Panjal range, it attracts thousands of devotees annually who undertake the journey through rugged terrain and scenic valleys.
To facilitate the pilgrims, authorities have deployed special medical teams, arranged langars (free community kitchens), mobile rest shelters, and 24×7 security surveillance from Jammu to Poonch.
The yatra is expected to continue over the next several weeks, and religious leaders have urged more people from across the country to take part in the spiritually enriching experience and explore the pristine beauty and cultural warmth of the Poonch region.
