Srinagar, May 11, 2025 – Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, addressing a public gathering in Jammu, declared that “enemies are making desperate attempts to divide us,” emphasizing that Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) remains a vibrant center of unity and brotherhood. His remarks come amid recent tensions along the Line of Control (LoC) and efforts to counter divisive narratives in the region.
Speaking at an event organized by the J&K administration, Sinha urged citizens to resist forces seeking to disrupt the region’s social fabric. “J&K has always been a symbol of communal harmony and coexistence. No force can break our resolve to live as one,” he said, highlighting the region’s history of resilience against external provocations. Sinha’s comments align with similar calls for unity from Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, who stressed the need to counter “divisive elements” threatening peace.
The LG’s address follows a period of heightened alertness in J&K after a ceasefire agreement with Pakistan, which has held since Saturday night. The truce, mediated bilaterally through military channels, ended days of cross-border firing and drone incursions sparked by a deadly terror attack in Pahalgam on April 22. Sinha praised the security forces for their role in maintaining stability, stating, “Our brave personnel ensure that the enemy’s nefarious designs are defeated.”
Sinha also highlighted development initiatives aimed at fostering inclusivity, including educational programs and infrastructure projects in rural areas. “Empowering every community through progress is our answer to those who sow discord,” he said, citing efforts to uplift marginalized groups in both Jammu and Kashmir divisions.
Local leaders and residents echoed Sinha’s message. “We’ve lived through tough times, but our unity is our strength,” said Rafiq Ahmad, a community elder in Srinagar. Analysts suggest that Sinha’s remarks target both external actors and internal elements exploiting regional grievances, especially in the wake of recent violence.
The administration’s focus on unity comes as J&K navigates a delicate phase of calm after years of unrest. Sinha called on youth to lead the charge in building a “new J&K,” rooted in peace and prosperity. “The enemy may try to divide us, but our brotherhood will always prevail,” he concluded, drawing applause from the diverse crowd.
