J&K LG Manoj Sinha champions linguistic harmony at Bhartiya Bhasha Samagam in Varanasi

Kashmir, September 14, 2025 – Lieutenant Governor Shri Manoj Sinha today delivered a compelling keynote address at the ‘Bhartiya Bhasha Samagam’, organized by the Hindusthan Samachar Group at Mahatma Gandhi Kashi Vidyapith here. The event underscored the vital role of linguistic harmony in fostering national unity and inclusive growth, drawing attention to India’s rich tapestry of languages and dialects.

In his speech, the Lieutenant Governor emphasized that a linguistically harmonious society forms the bedrock for swift socio-economic progress, fortifies social ties, and advances social equality. “Linguistic diversity preserves cultural heritage and enables people to contribute to nation-building,” he stated, highlighting how mutual respect and understanding among diverse languages can drive collective advancement.

The Lieutenant Governor praised the visionary leadership of Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, noting that India is not only emerging as a global economic powerhouse but also reclaiming its historical grandeur. He elaborated on the Prime Minister’s Panch Pran as a roadmap for the nation’s future, urging citizens to embrace their heritage, discard colonial legacies, and unite under the banner of ‘Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat’ to realize a Viksit Bharat.

Addressing linguistic scholars, researchers, and writers, Shri Sinha called for innovative systems to integrate India’s ancient knowledge into school curricula and libraries in all mother tongues. This, he said, would empower the youth to connect deeply with their glorious heritage. Referencing the National Education Policy-2020 (NEP-2020), he lauded its promotion of multilingualism, particularly the use of mother tongues or regional languages in early education, to preserve culture and unlock the full potential of all Indian languages.

“We must transcend mere admiration of our knowledge systems and embed them practically in mother-tongue education. In a fast-evolving world driven by technology and innovation, we need to present our cultural treasures engagingly to the youth. This demands a visionary strategy and widespread campaigns to heighten awareness of our civilization’s richness,” the Lieutenant Governor asserted.

He further illuminated the pivotal role of the mother tongue in child development, explaining that instruction in native languages, alongside multilingual learning, cultivates more skilled, competent, and innovative individuals. By harnessing linguistic diversity, India can infuse unique perspectives into art, technology, and beyond, accelerating national progress. “India exemplifies the transformative power of its linguistic mosaic,” he added.

The event concluded with the felicitation of scholars for their outstanding contributions to the promotion of Indian languages, recognizing their efforts in safeguarding and advancing the nation’s linguistic legacy.

This address aligns with broader initiatives to celebrate and preserve India’s multilingual heritage, reinforcing the spirit of unity in diversity.
