J&K LG Manoj Sinha celebrates Holi Milan Samaroh in Jehanabad, highlights Magadha’s legacy

JAMMU, March 11, 2025 — Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, Shri Manoj Sinha, attended the ‘Holi Milan Samaroh’ at Sendhwa, Jehanabad in Bihar, joining locals in a vibrant celebration of the festival of colors. The event, marked by gaiety and enthusiasm, provided a platform for the Lieutenant Governor to extend his hearty greetings and best wishes for a brighter future to all attendees, while emphasising the historical and cultural significance of the Magadha region.

In his address, Sinha highlighted the rich spiritual, educational, and cultural heritage of Magadha, an ancient kingdom under which Jehanabad falls. “Magadha region is the life element of our ancient culture. It has a prominent place in the history of modern India due to its ancient tradition and cultural values. The invincible strength of this land, adorned with the richness of philosophy, language, and literature, is guiding us,” he said.

The Lieutenant Governor traced Magadha’s historical contributions, noting its role as a cradle of civilization. “From this holy land, the principles of industry, trade, commerce, and urban development emerged and reached beyond the shores of India through scholars who came to Bodh Gaya from all over Asia,” he remarked, underscoring the region’s global influence.

Sinha also delved into Magadha’s cultural synthesis, referencing Vedic literature and historical accounts. “According to Vedic literature, there was ‘Magadha’ in the south-west, ‘Anga’ in the east, and ‘Videha’ in the north. The first description is found in the 14th verse, 53rd Sutra of the third Ashtak of the Rigveda, where it is called Keekat. Many historians have highlighted that the integration of Vedic culture and Vratya culture first took place in Magadha. Along with this, the tradition of Rajrishis started here, with the first being Rajrishi Vishwamitra,” he explained.

Calling for collective action, Sinha urged people from all sections of society to work together to revive the glory of ancient Magadha. “We need to unite in our efforts to restore the prominence of this historic region, which has shaped our cultural and intellectual legacy,” he said.

The Lieutenant Governor also praised the developmental strides made in Bihar and the Magadha region under the leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi. “Dedicated efforts are being made for the inclusive development of this region and the state, ensuring that its potential is fully realised,” he added.

The ‘Holi Milan Samaroh’ in Sendhwa brought together community members in a joyous celebration, reflecting the spirit of unity and festivity that Holi embodies. Sinha’s participation and his focus on Magadha’s heritage underscored the event’s broader cultural significance, resonating with attendees and reinforcing the region’s historical pride.

As the Lieutenant Governor concluded his visit, his message of revival and progress left a lasting impression, aligning the festive cheer with a vision for a resurgent Magadha, rooted in its ancient legacy yet poised for a modern renaissance.
