J&K LG Manoj Sinha calls for AI labs in J&K universities to shape future

Srinagar, February 28, 2025 – Jammu & Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Shri Manoj Sinha ignited a call for progress, urging all universities in Jammu & Kashmir to establish Artificial Intelligence (AI) Labs during his address at the National Science Day seminar at the University of Kashmir. Paying tribute to legendary scientist Sir C.V. Raman, whose discovery of the Raman Effect is celebrated on this day, He underscored the vital role of science and technology in shaping a sustainable future.

Speaking to a packed audience of students, educators, and researchers, he painted a bold vision. “AI is the future—we cannot imagine life without it,” he declared. “It will impact every aspect of our lives, and we must prepare our youth with the knowledge and skills to lead.” He called for reskilling and upskilling the workforce to match AI’s rapid evolution, aiming to position J&K as a competitive player on the global stage.

The proposed AI Labs will be game-changers, he explained. Set up as separate entities within the Science & Technology Department, they’ll bring together industry experts, researchers, educators, and technologists in a multidisciplinary push. “These labs will drive cutting-edge research and innovation,” he said, noting they’ll work directly with local industries to weave AI discoveries into businesses, boosting productivity and profits.

Also outlined plans for the labs to study AI’s current use in J&K and find ways to speed up its adoption. “We need creativity and collaboration to unlock our potential,” he added, linking the initiative to fostering a culture of innovation. His words come as the region rides a wave of transformation, with projects like the Z-Morh Tunnel already signalling growth.

The seminar, marking National Science Day, resonated with Sir C.V. Raman’s legacy of curiosity and discovery. LG Manoj Sinha’s push for AI Labs left attendees inspired, setting the stage for J&K’s universities to lead in a tech-driven era.
