J&K LG Manoj Sinha attends Krishak Mela, inaugurates key facilities at SKUAST Jammu

Jammu, March 25, 2025 – Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Shri Manoj Sinha attended the ‘Krishak Mela 2025’ at the Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology in Jammu, marking a significant step towards advancing agricultural development in the Union Territory. During the event, LG Sinha inaugurated four new facilities on the campus, aimed at bolstering education, research, and farmer training, reinforcing the region’s commitment to transforming its agricultural landscape.

The newly inaugurated facilities include a Fully Automated Poultry Production Unit, complete with a Postgraduate Laboratory for Poultry Research, designed to enhance poultry farming efficiency and sustainability. Additionally, the Sanskriti PG Girls’ Hostel, Faculty Club, and Residential Quarters were unveiled, providing critical infrastructure to support students, faculty, and researchers. These developments are expected to strengthen SKUAST Jammu’s role as a hub for agricultural innovation and farmer empowerment.

In his address, LG Manoj Sinha highlighted the remarkable progress in Jammu and Kashmir’s agriculture and allied sectors under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. “We have taken various innovative steps to transform the agricultural landscape of Jammu and Kashmir, including the launch of the flagship Holistic Agriculture Development Programme (HADP),” he said. He emphasized that for the past three consecutive years, J&K has achieved record productivity in agriculture, positioning it as a leader in sustainable farming practices.

The Krishak Mela, an annual event, serves as a platform to showcase modern agricultural technologies, promote sustainable farming, and facilitate knowledge exchange among farmers, scientists, and policymakers. During the event, LG Sinha felicitated progressive farmers for their contributions and visited stalls set up by farmers, Farmers Producers Organisations , and various line departments. He also released a publication titled “Krishi Adharit Udhyamon ke Madhyam Se: Sashakt aur Smriddh Bhavishya ki Kheti”, compiled by Krishi Vigyan Kendra Jammu, and launched a mobile app, Radio Kissan SKUAST Jammu 90.8 FM, aimed at enhancing communication with the farming community.

LG Sinha praised SKUAST Jammu for its outreach efforts through KVKs and research stations, which have been instrumental in exploring regional strengths and opportunities. “The university’s initiatives are driving agricultural transformation and economic growth,” he noted, urging further efforts to ensure research-driven innovations reach grassroots farmers.

The event underscores the J&K administration’s focus on empowering farmers through education, technology, and infrastructure. With initiatives like HADP and the new facilities at SKUAST Jammu, the Union Territory is poised to set a benchmark in agricultural productivity and sustainability.
