J&K LG Manoj Sinha assures safety for families affected by Pakistan’s shelling in Baramulla

Baramulla, May 9, 2025: Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha met with families displaced by Pakistan’s unprovoked cross-border firing at a safe shelter in Uri, Baramulla district, today. The shelling, which began on May 7, targeted civilian areas along the Line of Control , leaving a trail of destruction, including damaged homes, vehicles, and tragic loss of life. LG Sinha reassured the affected families that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is taking decisive steps to ensure their safety, with stringent actions underway to safeguard every resident of Uri.

“I met families affected by Pakistan’s unprovoked firing at a safe shelter in Baramulla. I’ve assured them that Hon’ble PM Shri Narendra Modi Ji is personally committed to their safety and security, and all necessary measures are being taken to protect Uri’s residents,” LG Manoj Sinha

Pakistan’s aggression, involving heavy mortar and artillery fire, struck multiple sectors, including Uri, Kupwara, Poonch, and Rajouri, killing 16 civilians, among them three women and five children. In Uri, the shelling injured several locals and destroyed property, with shrapnel and bullets found scattered in residential areas. The Indian Army retaliated swiftly, responding to what authorities described as a deliberate escalation following India’s Operation Sindoor—a targeted strike on May 7 against terror camps in Pakistan and PoK, prompted by the April 22 Pahalgam attack that claimed 26 lives.

LG Manoj Sinha’s visit to the Baramulla shelter highlighted the administration’s focus on supporting affected communities. The government has begun relocating civilians to secure locations and providing medical care, with injured Uri residents receiving treatment at Baramulla Government College. PM Modi, closely monitoring the crisis, has directed officials to strengthen emergency response systems and ensure the region’s stability.

The shelling has intensified LoC tensions, with Pakistan’s targeting of civilians drawing sharp criticism. India’s firm stance, backed by Modi’s leadership, signals zero tolerance for such violations. As relief efforts continue, the government remains steadfast in its commitment to protecting J&K’s residents and countering cross-border threats.
