SRINAGAR, AUGUST 23: Lieutenant Governor Shri Manoj Sinha today addressed youth during the event “Hindi Rangmanch – Humari Bhasha, Humari Pehchaan” organized by Wadies Hindi Shiksha Samiti at Tagore Hall, Srinagar.
In his address, the Lieutenant Governor lauded the remarkable efforts of Wadies Hindi Shiksha Samiti in promoting the official language Hindi in Jammu and Kashmir. He said Hindi has emerged as a language that connects the country and reflects India’s shared cultural identity.
“In the last 75 years, Hindi has become the language that connects the nation and our shared culture. During the freedom struggle, Hindi was considered the medium to express the sentiments of the entire country. Hindi is not only a medium of communication but also a symbol of pride, integrity, unity and identity for Indians,” the Lieutenant Governor said.
He highlighted that India is a multilingual country with 453 living languages, and Hindi has served as a connecting link for 140 crore people. He urged the youth to maintain linguistic harmony and to respect and learn other languages alongside their mother tongue.
“Along with Hindi, we should be proud of all our languages. Apart from our mother tongue, we must learn other languages and contribute to spreading their cultural and literary heritage,” the LG added.
Referring to the Constituent Assembly debates of September 14, 1949, the Lieutenant Governor recalled that Hindi received the strongest support from regions where it was not widely spoken. “For our freedom fighters and policy makers, Hindi was linked to the identity of the nation. They saw it as a thread of harmony enriching our cultural heritage,” he said.
The Lieutenant Governor also appreciated the initiatives of the Department of Culture and J\&K Academy of Art, Culture & Languages for promoting the linguistic heritage of Jammu and Kashmir.
On the occasion, the LG felicitated students, teachers, and artists for their outstanding participation in a campaign launched by Wadies Hindi Shiksha Samiti in June-July across four Kendriya Vidyalayas. The campaign aimed to generate interest in Hindi among students of classes 6th to 10th through various literary and cultural activities.
The event was attended by Principal Secretary Culture, Shri Brij Mohan Sharma; Param Vir Chakra awardee (Honorary Captain) Yogendra Yadav; MD & CEO J\&K Bank, Shri Amitava Chatterjee; Deputy Commissioner KVS Jammu, Shri Nagendra Goyal; National President of Wadies Hindi Shiksha Samiti, Ms. Nasreen Ali Nidhi; senior officials, literary personalities, educational heads, and a large number of youth.
