J&K LG calls for linking innovation with society’s ethical values

Kashmir , April 4, 2025: Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha emphasised the critical need to integrate innovation and growth with the ethical values of society during his keynote address at the Bharat Shiksha Summit, organised by the Balaji Foundation at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi, on April 3, 2025. Speaking to educators, policymakers, and students, Sinha highlighted how ethics and values serve as guiding principles for societal welfare and nation-building, urging their inclusion in educational curricula.

LG Manoj Sinha stressed that innovation must align with moral frameworks to address real-world challenges effectively. He advocated for hands-on, experiential, and project-based learning to prepare young minds for practical problem-solving. “The time has come to take education out of the lab and into the real world,” he remarked, encouraging a shift from rote memorisation to fostering creative imagination and ethical determination. This approach, he noted, supports the goals of the National Education Policy 2020, which aims to create students who are sources of living knowledge rather than mere repositories of facts.

Reflecting on educational reforms in Jammu and Kashmir, Sinha pointed to a transformed academic environment under the guidance of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi. He highlighted the absence of disruptions like strikes and shutdowns, which once plagued the region, stating, “Today, schools, colleges, and universities function without disturbance, and J&K is moving toward a prosperous future with its full potential.” These changes, he said, provide better opportunities for the region’s talent pool to contribute to national development.

The Lieutenant Governor also called for classrooms to foster dialogue over monologues, emphasizing the role of teachers in blending moral values with modern skills. He underscored that such a balance nurtures qualities like strong character and intellectual curiosity, essential for building an equitable and inclusive society. The summit, attended by Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak, provided a platform for discussions on aligning education with societal needs.

LG Manoj Sinha’s address reflects a broader vision for Jammu and Kashmir, where innovation, grounded in ethical principles, drives progress while preserving cultural and social integrity. His remarks resonate with ongoing efforts to position the Union Territory as a hub for education and development, fostering a generation equipped to tackle global challenges with compassion and ingenuity.
