Kashmir , March 25,2026- In a major step towards strengthening digital identity services, the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI), in collaboration with the Information Technology Department and Project Samagra Shiksha under the School Education Department, has launched the Mega Aadhaar Mandatory Biometric Update (MBU) Drive 2.0 across Jammu and Kashmir.
The drive has already commenced in winter zone schools, while schools in the summer zones will be covered starting April 1.
Officials said the large-scale initiative aims to cover 2,382 identified schools and provide Aadhaar biometric update services to over 2 lakh students directly within school premises, ensuring convenience and maximum outreach.
The programme is designed to facilitate timely updates of biometric data for children, which is mandatory at certain age milestones, and to ensure seamless access to various government services linked with Aadhaar.
By taking services to schools, the initiative seeks to eliminate the need for students and parents to visit enrolment centres, thereby improving efficiency and coverage.
Authorities emphasized that the drive will play a crucial role in strengthening digital governance, improving service delivery, and ensuring inclusion of students in welfare and education-related schemes.
