J&K Health Department rolls out HPV Vaccine Campaign

Kashmir, February 28,2026- In a landmark public health initiative, the Jammu & Kashmir administration has launched a comprehensive HPV vaccination campaign targeting approximately 1.35 lakh adolescent girls across all 20 districts of the Union Territory.

A total of 192 vaccination centres have been made operational to ensure smooth implementation, including 11 Government Medical Colleges and 142 Primary Health Centres. The drive is designed to promote early immunisation and raise awareness about the importance of cervical cancer prevention.

Focus on Cervical Cancer Prevention

The campaign aims to significantly reduce the incidence of cervical cancer by providing timely vaccination and structured health education. Officials emphasised that adolescent immunisation is a critical step toward long-term public health outcomes, ensuring that young girls are protected against human papillomavirus (HPV) infections, the leading cause of cervical cancer.

Awareness and Outreach

Alongside vaccination, the initiative includes awareness programmes for communities, schools, and families, highlighting the benefits of early immunisation and dispelling myths related to vaccines. Health authorities are coordinating with local institutions and community leaders to maximise outreach and participation.

The campaign reflects Jammu & Kashmir’s ongoing commitment to preventive healthcare, adolescent health, and female empowerment through targeted, large-scale public health interventions.
