Srinagar, December 23,2025-In a significant move to strengthen healthcare services across the Union Territory, the Jammu and Kashmir Health and Medical Education Department has referred 480 posts of Medical Officers (MBBS) to the Jammu and Kashmir Public Service Commission (JKPSC) for direct recruitment.
Officials said the decision aims to address the shortage of doctors in government health institutions, particularly in rural, remote, and underserved areas of Jammu and Kashmir. The recruitment drive is expected to improve patient care delivery and reduce the workload on existing medical staff.
According to sources, the posts have been formally referred to JKPSC, which will initiate the selection process as per established recruitment rules. Eligible candidates holding MBBS degrees and meeting other prescribed criteria will be able to apply once the commission issues the official notification.
Health authorities stated that strengthening the medical workforce is a top priority of the government, especially in view of increasing healthcare demands and the need to enhance services at primary health centres (PHCs), community health centres (CHCs), and district hospitals.
The move has been welcomed by medical aspirants and healthcare experts, who see it as a positive step toward improving the public healthcare infrastructure in Jammu and Kashmir. Officials added that further recruitment in other health cadres is also under consideration to ensure comprehensive healthcare coverage.
The Health Department reiterated its commitment to ensuring timely recruitment, transparency, and merit-based selection through JKPSC.
