J&K government to roll out rehabilitation plan for drug abuse victims

Srinagar, May 9,2026-The Jammu & Kashmir Government is set to roll out a comprehensive rehabilitation plan for victims of drug abuse as part of its intensified efforts to tackle substance addiction and support recovery among affected individuals.

Officials said the rehabilitation initiative will focus on providing medical treatment, counselling, psychological support, skill development and social reintegration for individuals struggling with drug addiction. The plan aims to strengthen the existing de-addiction framework and ensure better access to rehabilitation services across the Union Territory.

The move comes amid ongoing anti-drug campaigns and awareness drives being conducted across Jammu & Kashmir under the broader mission to build a drug-free society. Authorities said special attention will be given to youth affected by substance abuse, with community participation and family counselling expected to play a key role in the rehabilitation process.

Health experts and social welfare officials have stressed the importance of combining awareness with rehabilitation, stating that recovery and reintegration are essential to effectively address the growing challenge of drug addiction.

The administration is also expected to enhance coordination between health departments, educational institutions, law enforcement agencies and social organisations to ensure long-term support for recovering individuals.

Officials reiterated that the government remains committed to protecting the youth from the menace of drugs through prevention, treatment and rehabilitation measures.
