J&K government to fill 7,253 vacant posts by year-end, announces CM Omar Abdullah

Jammu, March 21, 2025 – In a significant boost to employment opportunities in Jammu and Kashmir, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has announced that the J&K government plans to fill 7,253 vacant posts by the year-end. The initiative, revealed during a recent address to the Legislative Assembly, underscores the administration’s commitment to tackling unemployment and strengthening public services across the Union Territory.

Speaking on Thursday, March 20, CM Omar Abdullah emphasized that the recruitment drive targets both Gazetted and Non-Gazetted positions, aiming to address long-standing vacant posts in various departments. “Our goal is to ensure that these government jobs are filled efficiently and transparently by the end of 2025,” he stated, highlighting the proactive measures being taken by the J&K Public Service Commission (JKPSC) and the J&K Services Selection Board (JKSSB).

The announcement comes amid efforts to streamline the recruitment process, with over 11,500 selections already completed in the past two years. The government has introduced reforms such as online computer-based examinations and the elimination of interviews for certain posts to accelerate hiring. “We are building a system that prioritizes speed, fairness, and merit,” Abdullah added.

This move is expected to provide a lifeline to thousands of job seekers in Jammu and Kashmir, where unemployment has been a pressing concern. With 7,253 vacant posts set to be filled, the initiative promises to enhance administrative efficiency while offering employment opportunities to the youth. The Chief Minister also noted that additional vacancies—over 16,000—are being referred to recruiting agencies, signaling a broader push to bolster the workforce.

As the year-end deadline approaches, all eyes are on the J&K government to deliver on its promise. The successful execution of this recruitment drive could mark a turning point for the region, reinforcing trust in the administration led by Omar Abdullah and paving the way for sustained economic growth.
