SrinagarI March 19, 2025 – The Jammu and Kashmir government is in the process of drafting a new media policy aimed at regulating digital platforms, including social media, news websites, and online portals. Announced on March 18, 2025, this initiative seeks to adapt to the evolving media landscape by incorporating emerging digital channels into its framework. The policy is being designed to align with standards set by the Directorate of Advertising and Visual Publicity, Government of India, and will facilitate the empanelment of digital media entities.
The move comes as a response to the growing influence of social media and online news platforms in the region. In a statement, the government emphasised its intent to create a structured approach to managing these platforms, though specific details about the policy’s scope, regulations, and implementation timeline remain under wraps as drafting continues. The announcement was made in reply to a cut motion by MLA Pulwama Waheed-ur-Rehman Para, signalling active legislative interest in the matter.
As the J&K government finalises the framework, stakeholders anticipate further clarity on how it will balance regulation with the free flow of information in the digital age. Updates are expected from official channels, including the Department of Information and Public Relations J&K, as the policy takes shape.
