Nowshera, December 6: Jammu & Kashmir Deputy Chief Minister, Surinder Kumar Choudhary, chaired a comprehensive review meeting with senior officers from the Public Works Department (PWD), Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY), Labour, Industries & Commerce, and Geology & Mining departments in Nowshera.
During the meeting, the Deputy Chief Minister assessed the physical and financial progress of PMGSY projects in the Rajouri and Budhal divisions. He directed officials to expedite the completion of ongoing projects while ensuring the highest quality standards. Taking serious note of reports regarding substandard work on some PMGSY projects, the Dy CM stressed that no compromise with quality would be tolerated.
On the issue of delays caused by forest clearance requirements, Choudhary instructed concerned officers to ensure effective coordination and expedite the approval process to avoid further hindrances.
In his review of the PWD sector, the Dy CM examined the status of ongoing projects, emphasising adherence to quality parameters and the timely completion of works.
Choudhary was also apprised on the Sheshera Wildlife Sanctuary, known for its leopards and diverse wildlife. He directed the Wildlife Warden to draft a proposal to develop the sanctuary into a key tourist destination, recognising its potential to attract visitors. The Deputy Chief Minister highlighted the government’s commitment to promoting tourism and urged officials to publicise the district’s scenic locations to boost tourist arrivals.
Regarding the Kheora Industrial Estate, which houses 51 industrial units, Choudhary reviewed the operational status and directed a detailed report on the 20 non-functional units. Additionally, he was informed that two new industrial estates, at Kuldabi and Qila Darhal, are in the proposal stage.
Addressing concerns in the Geology and Mining sector, the Deputy Chief Minister stressed the importance of intensifying vigilance against illegal mining. He emphasized a zero-tolerance policy for such activities and called for systematic and scientific mining practices to ensure the conservation of resources. He also urged enhanced coordination between enforcement agencies to take strict action against violators.
Later in the day, Choudhary interacted with the public, who raised various issues, and assured them of prompt action and resolution of their concerns.
