Srinagar, April 25, 2025 – Jammu and Kashmir Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary has asserted that the Amarnath Yatra, a significant religious pilgrimage, will proceed undeterred despite the recent Pahalgam terror attack. Speaking on the resilience of Kashmir ound attack that claimed 26 lives, mostly tourists, at Baisaran meadow in Pahalgam on April 22, 2025, will not disrupt the spirit of Kashmir or the upcoming yatra.
“Amarnath Yatra is a religious event. Those who want to go to Amarnath will go by their will. It shall not be affected just because of the Pahalgam terror attack,” Choudhary stated. He emphasized the determination of Kashmiris to move forward, highlighting the region’s rich cultural heritage and the bravery of locals like Adil, a horse owner who sacrificed his life to save others during the attack. “Kashmiris will take it forward. I understand that innocents have lost their lives, but this act of terror in Pahalgam will not disturb Kashmir,” he added.
The Pahalgam attack, attributed to groups like The Resistance Front linked to Lashkar-e-Taiba, has heightened security concerns. However, Choudhary’s remarks reflect the collective resolve to ensure the safety and continuity of the Amarnath Yatra, a pilgrimage that draws thousands annually to the holy cave shrine. The Jammu and Kashmir administration, in coordination with the Indian Army, Jammu and Kashmir Police, and Central Armed Police Forces, has intensified security measures to protect pilgrims and tourists.
