Jammu and Kashmir’s deaf athletes showcased outstanding skill and determination at the 27th National Deaf Senior Sports Championship and the 10th National Deaf Junior and Sub-Junior Championship. Hosted at VSSD College, Kanpur, the championship saw the J&K Deaf Sports Association team secure a total of 12 medals. This achievement highlights the growing prominence of J&K deaf athletes on the national stage.

Among the medal winners, Lakshina stood out by claiming a medal in the women’s 70 kg judo category. Her disciplined performance was a key contributor to the team’s success. On the men’s side, Rakesh Bindey earned a medal in the 60 kg judo event, further strengthening Jammu and Kashmir’s reputation in deaf sports.

The team was honored at a special event at the Indian Youth Congress (IYC) headquarters in Jammu. IYC President Uday Bhanu Chib praised the athletes for their dedication and resilience. He was accompanied by Ranjodh Singh, Vice President and Chairman of the JKPYC Sports Cell, and Mohd Saleem, Vice Chairman of the J&K Sports Association of the Deaf. Olympic wrestler Bajrang Punia joined the ceremony virtually, congratulating the athletes and motivating them to pursue even greater achievements.
