Jammu, May 10, 2025 – Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah made an urgent visit to Rehari, Jammu, today to assess the aftermath of recent cross-border shelling by Pakistani forces and to meet with affected residents. The shelling, which injured several civilians, is part of escalating hostilities along the Line of Control , prompting heightened security measures under Operation Sindoor.
Rehari, a densely populated residential area, was targeted by Pakistani artillery fire, leaving homes damaged and five to six civilians wounded. Chief Minister Abdullah, accompanied by senior officials, met with the injured and their families, offering condolences and assuring them of the government’s full support. “Pakistan’s deliberate attacks on civilians are reprehensible. We stand with the people of Rehari and will ensure their safety and rehabilitation,” he declared.
The visit underscores the Jammu and Kashmir government’s commitment to addressing the human toll of Pakistan’s aggression, which includes drone strikes and heavy shelling in districts like Poonch, Kupwara, and Baramulla. The Indian Army, under Operation Sindoor, has been actively countering these provocations, notably neutralizing Pakistani drones in Khasa Cantt, Amritsar, earlier today.
During his tour, Abdullah inspected relief operations and directed the district administration to expedite medical care, provide ex gratia payments, and arrange temporary shelters for displaced families. The administration has established relief camps in safer zones and deployed additional medical teams to assist affected areas. “Our priority is to ensure no one is left without aid or security,” the Chief Minister emphasized.
Residents of Rehari, shaken by the violence, welcomed Abdullah’s visit, voicing concerns about recurring attacks and urging stronger border defenses. The administration has responded by enforcing strict blackout protocols, closing schools, and intensifying police patrols in vulnerable areas to safeguard civilians.
The Rehari shelling follows a pattern of Pakistani attempts to destabilize the region, amid India’s ongoing operations to dismantle terrorist networks across the border. The Chief Minister’s visit reflects his administration’s proactive stance, building on recent engagements with central leadership to address the crisis.
As tensions along the LoC persist, the Jammu and Kashmir government is working closely with the Indian Army and central authorities to bolster security and provide relief. Abdullah’s presence in Rehari has resonated with locals, with social media posts rallying behind the #IndianArmy and #OperationSindoor hashtags, signalling unity in the face of adversity.
