Srinagar, August 30,2025:Chief Minister Omar Abdullah chaired a high-level meeting to review the condition of the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway (NH-44) and other national highways and major roads that have suffered damage due to the recent spell of incessant rains across Jammu and Kashmir.
During the meeting, the Chief Minister directed the concerned authorities to ensure swift restoration work, smooth traffic movement, and uninterrupted supply of essential commodities, particularly to the Kashmir Valley and other remote areas affected by the disruption.
Omar Abdullah stressed the importance of close coordination among departments, including the PWD, Traffic Police, Disaster Management, and District Administrations, to provide timely updates to the public and respond promptly to their needs.
Highlighting the critical role of NH-44 as the lifeline of Kashmir, he instructed officials to deploy adequate manpower and machinery to clear landslides, repair damaged stretches, and establish alternative arrangements to avoid prolonged disruptions.
The Chief Minister also emphasized the need for regular monitoring of vulnerable road stretches and immediate reporting of any obstructions to maintain continuous connectivity between Jammu and Srinagar, as well as other inter-district roads across the Union Territory.
Authorities have assured that restoration work is underway on a war footing, with priority being given to ensuring safe passage for stranded passengers and uninterrupted supply of essentials to the Valley.
