Kashmir Ahead

J&K CM Omar Abdullah pushes J&K as creative, film hub

Kashmir, January 16,2026-The Chief Minister visited the Indian Institute of Creative Technologies (IICT)–National Film Development Corporation (NFDC) Campus in Mumbai and held wide-ranging interactions with professionals from the creative and film sectors, underscoring Jammu & Kashmir’s growing potential as a premier destination for film tourism and creative industries.

During the visit, the Chief Minister emphasised that Jammu & Kashmir offers a unique blend of natural landscapes, cultural richness, and storytelling traditions that can strongly support cinema, animation, visual effects, gaming, comics, and immersive media. He noted that with the right institutional support and skilled workforce, the region can emerge as a significant hub for creative production in India.

The Chief Minister stressed the urgent need for structured skilling and upskilling of youth from Jammu & Kashmir, particularly in emerging domains such as Animation, VFX, Gaming, Comics, and Extended Reality (XR). He highlighted that early exposure to industry-grade training and mentorship would enable young talent from the region to compete at national and global levels.

He also called for early and sustained collaboration with IICT–NFDC, proposing the development of national-level training programs, certification courses, and creative labs specifically designed to nurture talent from Jammu & Kashmir. Such initiatives, he said, would not only create employment opportunities but also strengthen the creative economy while positioning J&K as a preferred destination for film shoots, post-production, and digital content creation.

Industry professionals at the campus welcomed the initiative and discussed possible frameworks for academic partnerships, exchange programs, and on-ground training modules tailored for aspiring creators from the region.

The visit marks a significant step towards integrating Jammu & Kashmir into India’s fast-growing creative and media ecosystem, aligning youth empowerment with film tourism and cultural innovation.
