Kishtwar, Aug: In a compassionate outreach to those affected by the recent cloudburst in Kishtwar district, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah visited the worst-hit areas to personally assess the damage and meet the victims. The sudden cloudburst triggered flash floods that caused loss of lives, destruction of homes, and damage to agricultural land, leaving dozens of families devastated.
During his visit, CM Omar Abdullah interacted with the affected families, patiently listening to their grief and concerns. He assured them that the government stood firmly by their side in this hour of crisis. Expressing solidarity, he announced ex-gratia relief for the next of kin of those who lost their lives, as well as immediate financial assistance for the injured and displaced.
The Chief Minister also directed the district administration to speed up relief and rehabilitation measures, including temporary shelters, medical aid, and restoration of essential services. He emphasized close coordination with the Indian Army and disaster management teams to ensure timely evacuation, rescue, and supply of necessities to the marooned areas.
Addressing the media, Omar Abdullah said, “The pain of the victims is our pain. The government will not leave the people of Kishtwar alone in this tragedy. Relief and rehabilitation will be our top priority.”
Local residents welcomed the Chief Minister’s presence, saying it gave them hope and reassurance amidst their suffering. Officials confirmed that a detailed survey will soon be conducted to assess property loss, ensuring that compensation reaches all deserving families.
The visit underlines the government’s commitment to disaster relief, rehabilitation, and community welfare in Jammu and Kashmir, particularly in remote and disaster-prone areas like Kishtwar.
