Kashmir, May 8, 2025- Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah chaired a Border Situation Review Meeting at the Civil Secretariat in Srinagar via video conferencing to address escalating tensions along the Line of Control and International Border due to alleged shelling by the Pakistan Army. Attendees included Advisor Nasir Aslam Wani, Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo, Additional Chief Secretary Dheeraj Gupta, Divisional Commissioners of Kashmir and Jammu, and Deputy Commissioners from border districts like Jammu, Poonch, Rajouri, Kathua, Samba, Baramulla, Kupwara, and Bandipora, along with officials from Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs and Health & Medical Education departments.
Abdullah prioritised civilian safety, directing the release of Rs 5 crore for each border district and Rs 2 crore for others to manage emergencies. He emphasised strengthening shelters, bunkers, evacuation plans, and stockpiling essential food supplies. The Health Department was instructed to ensure adequate medicines, doctors, paramedics, blood supplies, and ambulances in affected areas. He also ordered filling vacant administrative posts, including Tehsildars, and countering misinformation by relying on verified sources. Expressing grief over civilian casualties, he instructed comprehensive assistance for affected families. Deputy Commissioners assured emergency operations and sufficient supplies, committing to continuous monitoring. The meeting followed the Pahalgam terror attack and India’s Operation Sindoor, with Abdullah also attending a prior meeting with Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
