JAMMU, JANUARY 13: The National Aerobic Gymnastics Championship 2024-25 concluded at the New Indoor Stadium, M.A. Stadium, Jammu, with Maharashtra emerging as the champions and Gujarat securing the second spot. The host team, Jammu & Kashmir, delivered an impressive performance, finishing as the 2nd runner-up.
Organised by the J&K Sports Council in collaboration with the Gymnastics Federation of India and the Gymnastics Association of Jammu & Kashmir, the championship saw the participation of over 500 athletes and officials representing 20 states, union territories, and boards across the country.
In a remarkable achievement for J&K, two of its gymnasts, Rudraksh Khanna and Riya Sharma, earned selection for the prestigious FIG Suzuki World Cup, marking a significant milestone in their careers and highlighting the region’s rising talent in gymnastics.
Commissioner Secretary for Youth Services and Sports, Sarmad Hafeez, expressed immense pride in the accomplishments of the J&K team, noting the successful organisation of the event. “This championship has not only showcased exceptional talent but has also fostered a spirit of sportsmanship and unity among participants,” Hafeez said.
Nuzhat Gul, Secretary of the J&K Sports Council, who distributed the awards, lauded the performance of J&K’s athletes and their coaches. “National championships like these provide athletes with a valuable platform to demonstrate their skills, and we are committed to hosting more such events to nurture sporting excellence,” she said.
Kiran Wattal, Vice President of the Gymnastics Federation of India and President of the Gymnastics Association of J&K, thanked the J&K Sports Council for its unwavering support throughout the tournament. He also emphasised J&K’s growing reputation as a top destination for national sports events, noting that the region is a preferred choice for GFI to host training camps and championships.
The championship, held under the ‘My Youth My Pride’ and ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’ initiatives, concluded with an atmosphere of celebration and inspiration. The event not only highlighted the exceptional performances of athletes but also solidified J&K’s position as a key hub for national sports activities.
