J&K Chief Minister Omar Abdullah reviews summer preparedness in high-level meeting

JAMMU, April 29, 2025 – Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah chaired a high-level meeting at the Civil Secretariat in Jammu on Tuesday to assess the summer preparedness of key government departments. The session focused on ensuring seamless delivery of essential services and addressing challenges posed by rising temperatures across the Union Territory.

The meeting, attended by senior officials, including administrative secretaries and department heads, reviewed arrangements for water supply, power distribution, healthcare services, and road connectivity to mitigate the impact of summer conditions. With the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasting potential heatwave conditions in the Jammu division, Abdullah directed departments to prioritize uninterrupted access to drinking water, electricity, and medical facilities, particularly in vulnerable areas.

Chief Minister Abdullah emphasized proactive measures to prevent disruptions, instructing the Public Health Engineering (PHE) Department to deploy water tankers in water-scarce regions and the Power Development Department (PDD) to ensure stable electricity supply. He also urged the Health Department to stock hospitals with adequate supplies to handle heat-related illnesses. “Our priority is to minimize public inconvenience and ensure essential services remain functional during the summer,” Abdullah said, as reported in posts on X.

The meeting also addressed infrastructure readiness, with the Roads and Buildings (R&B) Department tasked with maintaining key routes and ensuring accessibility to hospitals and emergency services. Abdullah called for coordinated efforts among departments to align with the government’s commitment to public welfare and efficient governance.

The discussions come amid broader efforts to strengthen Jammu and Kashmir’s resilience following the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack, which underscored the need for robust administrative and security frameworks. Abdullah’s leadership reflects a focus on balancing immediate seasonal challenges with long-term development goals, including tourism recovery and economic stability.

As summer temperatures rise, the administration’s proactive approach aims to safeguard residents and sustain the region’s recent progress in tourism and entrepreneurship, exemplified by initiatives like JKEDI’s Management Development Programs under the RAMP scheme.
