Srinagar, April 18, 2025 – The Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir joined the nation in commemorating the Parkash Purab of Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji, the ninth Sikh Guru, revered as ‘Hind Ki Chadar’ for his ultimate sacrifice in defending religious freedom. Celebrations across gurdwaras, particularly in Srinagar, Jammu, and Baramulla, highlighted Guru Ji’s timeless teachings of compassion, brotherhood, selfless service, equality, and justice.
Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha extended heartfelt greetings on the auspicious occasion, urging citizens to rededicate themselves to Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji’s ideals.
Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji, born in 1621, is celebrated for his martyrdom in 1675, when he laid down his life to protect the religious rights of Kashmiri Pandits against forced conversions. His teachings, enshrined in the Guru Granth Sahib, advocate for universal brotherhood and justice, resonating deeply in Jammu and Kashmir, a region known for its syncretic culture. Community leaders and scholars recited his hymns, emphasizing their relevance in fostering peace and equality today.
Posts on X, including from local Sikh organisations, echoed the call to embody Guru Ji’s values, with users sharing messages like “Let’s honor Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji by living his principles of compassion and courage.” The celebrations, marked by vibrant processions and charity drives, underscored the enduring impact of Guru Ji’s legacy in promoting social harmony across the Union Territory.
