Kashmir I March 12, 2025 – A major push to spark innovation among students was announced today with the establishment of 600 Information and Communication Technology (ICT) labs, 2000 Smart Classrooms, and 500 Atal Tinkering Labs. The initiative, revealed on Wednesday, aims to transform education by blending technology with hands-on learning, targeting the next generation of innovators.
The 600 ICT labs will bring digital tools like computers and high-speed internet to schools, enabling students to dive into coding, research, and digital skills training. Meanwhile, the 2000 Smart Classrooms will feature interactive screens and online resources, designed to make lessons more dynamic and engaging for learners of all ages. Rounding out the plan, the 500 Atal Tinkering Labs—part of a national effort under the Atal Innovation Mission—will offer spaces for students to experiment with robotics, 3D printing, and electronics, fostering creativity and problem-solving.
Officials behind the project say it’s about preparing students for a fast-changing world. “Innovation starts young, and these labs and classrooms will give kids the tools to think big,” a spokesperson noted. The rollout builds on growing efforts to integrate STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) into education, though exact locations and timelines remain under wraps.
Educators have welcomed the move but stress the need for proper execution. “The tech is great, but it’s only as good as the teachers using it,” said Priya Sharma, a school principal with experience in digital learning programs. Details on funding and staff training are expected soon, with implementation likely to span the coming year.
The announcement aligns with broader goals to boost technological literacy and innovation, echoing similar projects nationwide. As these new facilities take shape, they promise to reshape how students learn—and dream—about the future.
