Srinagar, October 9, 2025 – Jammu and Kashmir has achieved a landmark milestone in digital healthcare by generating over 1.05 crore Ayushman Bharat Health Accounts (ABHAs) under the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission , officials confirmed today. This accomplishment underscores the Union Territory’s rapid strides in building a technology-driven, integrated healthcare ecosystem, positioning it as a national leader in digital health adoption. The ABDM, launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in September 2021 and rolled out in J&K in July 2022, aims to create a nationwide “digital highway” that connects healthcare stakeholders for seamless service delivery. In J&K, the initiative has seen explosive growth, with more than 7.5 lakh ABHA cards issued in September 2025 alone, reflecting strong grassroots engagement.Under the stewardship of Secretary Health and Medical Education, Syed Abid Rasheed Shah, and ABDM Mission Director, Anant Dwivedi, J&K has exceeded several national benchmarks. Notably, the UT boasts 100% registration of public health professionals (via the Healthcare Professionals Registry – HPR), public health facilities, and private health facilities (via the Health Facility Registry – HFR).
This comprehensive coverage ensures that every corner of the healthcare system is digitally linked, enabling efficient patient management and record-keeping.A standout feature is the “Scan & Share” service for Outpatient Department (OPD)-based token generation, which allows patients to book slots from home using the ABHA app. By scanning a QR code at the facility (or via abdmjk.in), users generate instant tokens, drastically reducing queues and wait times. J&K ranks among the top four states nationally in this service, with an impressive 82,87,701 scans and shares recorded to date—surpassing 82.8 lakh OPD interactions and highlighting the UT’s prowess in paperless healthcare.”This milestone not only transforms how patients access care but also empowers doctors with electronic medical records (EMRs) and patients with personal health records (PHR) via the ABHA ID,” an official from the Health and Medical Education Department stated. Currently, over 90 lakh health records are linked to ABHA IDs in J&K, allowing citizens to view their complete medical history on the go.
The success story extends beyond numbers: Electronic prescriptions and lab reports are now digitized, minimizing errors and enhancing interoperability. As part of broader efforts, the mission aligns with the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PM-JAY), which provides up to ₹5 lakh annual health coverage to vulnerable families, further integrating insurance with digital tools.J&K’s achievements come amid national progress, where over 79.9 crore ABHAs have been created across India as of August 2025. However, the UT’s 100% facility registration and top-tier OPD scan performance set it apart, serving as a model for other regions.Health experts hail this as a “tenfold leap” in accessibility, especially in remote areas, where mobile apps bridge geographical gaps.
