Jammu’s ‘Waste to Wonder’ park set to welcome Amarnath Pilgrims Ahead of Yatra

Jammu, June 10,2026- Jammu’s upcoming ‘Waste to Wonder’ Park, being developed under the Jammu Smart City Mission, is being fast-tracked for completion ahead of the annual Amarnath Yatra, with authorities aiming to make it a major attraction for pilgrims and tourists visiting the city. The project has already achieved nearly 80 percent physical progress and is expected to be ready before the commencement of the pilgrimage.

During a recent review of ongoing Smart City projects, Chief Minister’s Advisor Nasir Aslam Wani directed officials to expedite work on the park so that Amarnath pilgrims can experience the unique attraction during their stay in Jammu. Officials informed the Advisor that the project, being developed at an estimated cost of Rs 11 crore, is nearing completion and is expected to emerge as a major recreational and educational destination.

Located at Bhagwati Nagar along the banks of the Tawi River, close to the base camp of the Amarnath Yatra, the park is being developed over approximately 40 kanals of land. It will feature replicas of 14 iconic monuments crafted primarily from scrap and recycled materials, including seven international landmarks, five national monuments, and two structures representing Uttar Pradesh.

One of the key attractions of the park will be a 40-foot-high replica of the Statue of Unity dedicated to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. The innovative project combines tourism promotion with environmental sustainability by transforming waste and discarded materials into artistic installations.

Officials said the first-of-its-kind park in Jammu is expected to boost tourism, promote environmental awareness, and encourage the concept of recycling through creative public infrastructure. The attraction is also likely to provide pilgrims and visitors with a new sightseeing destination while enhancing Jammu’s image as a modern and eco-friendly Smart City.

With thousands of devotees expected to arrive for the Amarnath Yatra, authorities are working in mission mode to complete key urban infrastructure projects, ensuring improved facilities and new attractions for visitors. The Waste to Wonder Park is expected to become one of Jammu’s prominent tourist landmarks once operational.
