Jammu, January 29,2026-In a move aimed at easing travel for tourists and stranded passengers, the Jammu Railway Division has added two additional air-conditioned coaches to the special reserved Katra–Srinagar train, officials said on Wednesday.
The decision was taken in view of the heavy rush of passengers and rising tourist footfall in Jammu and Kashmir, particularly along the Katra–Srinagar route, which has witnessed increased demand due to weather-related road disruptions and heightened pilgrimage movement.
Railway officials said the augmentation will significantly improve passenger comfort and capacity, ensuring smoother travel for visitors and locals alike. The special train service is being operated to facilitate safe and timely movement, especially for passengers stranded due to traffic bottlenecks on the Jammu–Srinagar National Highway.
“The addition of two AC coaches will help accommodate more passengers and provide relief to those facing travel delays,” an official said, adding that the railway administration is closely monitoring the situation and may introduce further measures if demand continues to rise.
The move is part of Indian Railways’ ongoing efforts to strengthen connectivity in Jammu and Kashmir, particularly during peak travel seasons. Enhanced rail services are also expected to support tourism, pilgrimage, and economic activity in the region.
Passengers have welcomed the decision, terming it a timely step that reflects the railways’ commitment to public convenience and efficient transport services.
