Jammu & Kashmir police hosts cyber safety awareness camp in Reasi

The Jammu & Kashmir Police, in a proactive effort to promote cyber safety and responsible online behaviour, organised an awareness camp on “Digital Arrest” at the Government Boys Higher Secondary School in Reasi. This initiative aimed at educating students, teachers, and the local community about the growing importance of online security and the consequences of engaging in unlawful digital activities. As digital platforms become an integral part of daily life, understanding the potential risks associated with online actions is crucial. The camp focused on raising awareness about the legal implications of cybercrimes, such as online harassment, identity theft, cyberbullying, and the spread of false information. With increasing incidents of cybercrimes across the region, the Jammu & Kashmir Police emphasized the need for responsible digital behaviour to prevent individuals from falling prey to online threats. The session was led by experts from the Jammu & Kashmir Police Cyber Crime Unit, who explained the concept of “Digital Arrest” – the idea that illegal online behaviour can lead to severe legal repercussions, including arrests, as per the provisions of cyber laws. The camp also highlighted the significance of maintaining privacy and security on social media platforms and other digital spaces. Students were educated on how to protect their personal information, recognize online scams, and report suspicious activities. Teachers were provided with tools to guide students on safe internet practices, while the local community was encouraged to adopt safer online habits in both personal and professional spheres. In his address, the event coordinator underscored that as technology continues to evolve, so too do the threats in the digital world. He urged participants to be vigilant, make informed decisions, and always follow the best practices for online security. The police also introduced several helpline numbers for reporting cybercrimes and offering support to victims. The event was well received, with active participation from students, teachers, and community members, all of whom expressed appreciation for the valuable insights provided. The camp successfully highlighted the importance of digital literacy and the critical need to stay informed about the risks associated with online activities. This initiative is part of the Jammu & Kashmir Police’s ongoing efforts to foster a safer digital environment for the people of the region. By equipping young minds with knowledge and awareness about the digital world, the police are helping to build a generation of responsible internet users who can navigate online spaces safely and ethically. For further information or assistance regarding cyber safety, the Jammu & Kashmir Police encourages the public to reach out to their cybercrime helpline.
