Baramulla, July 23: The much-awaited Inter-School Under-19 Boys Tournament commenced today at the Indoor Stadium Baramulla, bringing together young sports talent from across the district. The event was formally inaugurated by Deputy Commissioner Baramulla, Dr. Minga Sherpa (IAS), in the presence of school officials, sports coaches, and enthusiastic students.
A total of 19 school teams are participating in the tournament, representing various educational institutions from urban and rural areas of the district. During the opening ceremony, the young athletes took a collective pledge upholding the values of unity, discipline, and sportsmanship.
In his address, DC Baramulla Dr. Minga Sherpa emphasised the importance of sports in holistic youth development and community engagement. He stated, “ Such tournaments not only identify talent but also foster brotherhood, teamwork, and leadership among students.”
The tournament is set to feature a series of competitive matches over the coming days, with disciplines ranging from football and volleyball to kabaddi and athletics. The District Youth Services and Sports Office is supervising the event with full support from local authorities.
