Srinagar,March 18, 2025 – The Food Safety team of the Drug and Food Control Organisation conducted a series of intensive food safety inspections across Srinagar, acting on the directives of Deputy Commissioner Srinagar, Dr. Bilal Mohi-Ud-Din Bhat. The inspections targeted industrial units manufacturing bakery items, sweets, and confectionery, aiming to enforce strict food safety standards and ensure the quality of food products available to the public.
Led by Assistant Commissioner Food Safety Srinagar, Yameen Ul Nabi, along with Food Safety Officers Hakeem Adil and Syed Dilpazi, the team inspected units in the industrial area of Khanmouh. Surveillance samples were collected to assess the hygiene and quality of food items, with four Food Business Operators recommended for penalties due to violations of the Food Safety and Standards Act. These measures underscore the administration’s commitment to safeguarding public health in the region.
The Srinagar inspections are part of an ongoing effort to maintain clean markets and ensure that food business operators adhere to regulations, particularly ahead of high-demand periods like Ramadan. “Our goal is to guarantee that every citizen has access to safe and high-quality food,” said a Food Safety official. The initiative aligns with broader campaigns to promote public health and consumer safety in Jammu & Kashmir.
The Food Safety/Drug and Food Control Organisation has vowed to continue these intensive inspections across Srinagar, with regular monitoring to prevent the sale of substandard or unsafe food items. Authorities have urged FBOs to comply with guidelines to avoid penalties and contribute to a healthier marketplace.
This proactive approach reflects Srinagar’s dedication to upholding food safety, ensuring that the city’s markets remain a trusted source of goods for residents and visitors alike.
