Kashmir,November 9, 2025 – Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, Shri Manoj Sinha, addressed the 16th Convocation of the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Raipur today, emphasising India’s pivotal role in driving global innovation. Speaking as the chief guest at the Pt. Deendayal Upadhyay Auditorium, LG Sinha highlighted the responsibilities of engineers and tech experts in building a future-ready society amid evolving technological challenges.”It was a pleasure to visit NIT Raipur, Chhattisgarh, and deliver the Convocation Address,” LG Sinha remarked, underscoring the institute’s role as a premier hub for advanced science and technology education in the state. He spoke at length about the key areas of responsibility for engineers and tech experts: fostering sustainable progress, navigating complex global challenges, and ensuring innovations contribute to long-term economic growth and an improved quality of life.”India will power the world’s next innovation wave,” LG Sinha declared, pointing to the nation’s remarkable economic resilience despite global trade tariffs, conflicts, and uncertainties. He noted that India’s research and development (R&D) spending has surged from Rs 60,000 crore in 2010-11 to nearly Rs 1.3 lakh crore annually, positioning the country as an emerging global innovation powerhouse.
“Today, our focus is to ensure scientific findings, research, and ideas are effectively translated and applied in the field for sustainable long-term economic growth and improved quality of life,” he added.LG Sinha praised NIT Raipur for nurturing young minds, bridging academia with industry, and promoting innovation and entrepreneurship to realize the vision of Aatmanirbhar Bharat (Self-Reliant India). He urged the graduating students—over 800 degrees were conferred across various disciplines—to leverage advancements in machine learning, generative AI, and autonomous systems to address real-world problems. “Behind this rise stand institutions like NIT Raipur, turning ideas into action,” he said.The event was attended by distinguished guests, including Dr. G. Satheesh Reddy, former Chairman of the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and Scientific Adviser to the Ministry of Defence, who served as the special guest. Dr. Suresh Haware, Chairman of the Board of Governors, NIT Raipur, and Dr. N.V. Ramana Rao, Director of the institute, also participated in the ceremony.
During his visit to Chhattisgarh, LG Sinha held courtesy meetings with state leaders, including Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai at his residence office and Governor Ramen Deka at Raj Bhavan, further strengthening inter-state collaborations.NIT Raipur, established in 1956, continues to play a vital role in technical education, with its alumni contributing significantly to India’s innovation ecosystem.
