Kashmir, August 30, 2025: India has officially submitted its proposal to host the 2030 Commonwealth Games in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, marking a significant step toward bringing the prestigious multi-sport event back to the country after two decades. The formal bid was presented to Commonwealth Sport (formerly the Commonwealth Games Federation) in London by a delegation led by Gujarat Sports Minister Harsh Sanghavi, with representatives from the Commonwealth Games Association of India and the Government of Gujarat.
The bid positions Ahmedabad as the host city for the centenary edition of the Commonwealth Games, celebrating 100 years of sporting excellence, unity, and shared values. The proposal emphasizes sustainability, inclusivity, and alignment with the Commonwealth’s Games Reset principles, aiming to deliver an athlete-centered, eco-friendly, and future-focused event. Indian Olympic Association (IOA) President PT Usha stated, “This bid represents the aspirations of an entire nation, showcasing India’s sporting capabilities and values of friendship, respect, and inclusivity.”
India’s vision for the 2030 Commonwealth Games is rooted in the principles of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam (the world is one family) and Atithi Devo Bhava (the guest is divine), ensuring a warm and inclusive experience for athletes, officials, and spectators. The Games, planned for October over 12 days, will feature a full-fledged sports program, including para-sports, gender balance, and events like shooting, hockey, wrestling, badminton, archery, squash, and potentially cricket, which were excluded from the 2026 Glasgow Games.
Ahmedabad’s selection as the host city leverages its proven capacity to manage large-scale events, such as the 2023 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup final. The city offers international-standard venues, robust urban transport, and high-quality accommodation, ensuring a seamless and accessible Games experience. The bid aligns with India’s ambition to become a global sporting hub, serving as a stepping stone toward hosting the 2036 Olympics.
The proposal, backed by the Union Cabinet and submitted on National Sports Day (August 29), honouring hockey legend Major Dhyan Chand, underscores India’s sporting heritage and commitment to youth development. Gujarat’s vision to become a sports tourism hub is expected to boost infrastructure, jobs, and international tourism, leaving a lasting legacy beyond 2030.
