India shines at Asian Wrestling Championships 2026, Opens Medal Tally with Silver and Bronze

Kashmir,April 8,2026 -India made a strong start at the Asian Wrestling Championships 2026, with impressive performances in the Greco-Roman category, securing early medals and boosting the nation’s prospects in the continental tournament.

Competing in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, Indian wrestler Lalit delivered a remarkable performance in the 55kg Greco-Roman category to clinch the silver medal, marking India’s first podium finish of the championship. Lalit displayed resilience and tactical strength throughout the competition, advancing confidently to the final before finishing second.

Adding to India’s medal tally, Sunil Kumar secured a bronze medal in the 87kg GR category. Sunil staged a commendable comeback in his bronze medal bout, showcasing determination and experience to outclass his opponent and ensure India’s second medal of the tournament.

Meanwhile, Nitesh kept India’s gold medal hopes alive by storming into the 97kg Greco-Roman final. In a dominant semifinal performance, Nitesh defeated Wang Zegang of China, underlining his strong form and potential to secure the top podium finish.
