Kashmir,23 September 2025: As India observes seven years of Ayushman Bharat – Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY), the nation celebrates a healthcare revolution that has redefined service delivery by ensuring universal access, financial protection, and dignity in care for over 55 crore citizens.
Launched in 2018, Ayushman Bharat – PMJAY is the world’s largest government-funded health insurance programme, providing cashless secondary and tertiary care to the most vulnerable sections of society. The scheme has become a blueprint for visionary public health policy, ensuring that no family is pushed into poverty due to medical expenses.
Officials said the programme has not only reduced the out-of-pocket expenditure of patients but also empowered millions with timely and affordable treatments across empanelled hospitals in both rural and urban areas.
Health experts and policymakers hailed the scheme as a landmark in India’s journey towards Universal Health Coverage (UHC). They noted that the initiative has also strengthened the country’s healthcare infrastructure, created opportunities for private-public partnerships, and improved overall healthcare accessibility.
“True leadership in governance lies in anticipating the needs of tomorrow, and Ayushman Bharat reflects that vision,” said a senior health official, adding that the programme continues to evolve to meet the demands of a dynamic healthcare landscape.
The government reiterated its commitment to expand the scheme’s coverage, enhance digital health services, and ensure equitable access to quality healthcare for every citizen.
