Kashmir, November 21,2025: In a significant move aimed at strengthening environmental governance, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha has appointed two Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs) to the J&K Wildlife Board, reinforcing the Union Territory’s commitment to wildlife protection and ecological conservation.
The inclusion of the MLAs is expected to enhance legislative participation in key policy decisions related to habitat preservation, biodiversity protection, and sustainable wildlife management. Officials said the move will improve coordination between lawmakers, forest authorities, and conservation agencies, ensuring more effective implementation of wildlife action plans across Jammu and Kashmir.
The J&K Wildlife Board, which plays a pivotal role in reviewing and approving conservation strategies, will now benefit from additional political representation that can help address ground-level challenges such as human–wildlife conflict, forest protection, and ecotourism development.
The LG’s decision is being viewed as a step toward holistic and participatory environmental management in the UT, with a renewed focus on safeguarding endangered species and strengthening conservation mechanisms.
