There was no road connectivity here. It was a challenge for the Railways, said a Jammu & Kashmir official. Constructing the Chenab Bridge was definitely a challenge in itself. It is a steel and concrete spanning 1,315 m across the river Chenab. This single-arch bridge built at a height of 359m will prove to be a milestone not only for the countrymen but also for the local people here. The first railway cable bridge Anji Khad Bridge in Reasi district of Jammu & Kashmir is known for its impressive engineering. But here also three reconstruction companies left as it was a challenging project. As for the Chenab Bridge, the difference between Bakkal and Kauri on two ends in Reasi was proving to be too long travelling by road. Now, the high altitude Chenab Bridge crosses the river between Kauri and Bakkal. The journey that used to take J&K people a day can now be completed in a few hours, the official stated.
