RAMBAN, September 5, 2025 — In a transformative step toward bridging healthcare gaps in Jammu and Kashmir’s rural areas, the District Administration Ramban, under Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Alyas Khan, has launched the innovative Hospital on Wheels initiative. This program aims to deliver critical medical services directly to the doorsteps of villagers in remote and inaccessible areas, ensuring equitable access to healthcare for all.The Hospital on Wheels initiative, rolled out in August 2025, deploys mobile medical camps equipped with a specialized team of doctors, paramedics, and essential diagnostic tools. These camps provide free consultations, medicines, and on-site tests, including blood sugar, anemia, malaria, and screenings for non-communicable diseases (NCDs) and tuberculosis under the National Tuberculosis Elimination Programme (NTEP). The program also promotes digital health inclusion by generating Ayushman Bharat Health Account (ABHA) IDs under the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM).
Deputy Commissioner Khan emphasized the mission’s core objective: “Ramban is a predominantly rural district with challenging terrain and limited access to health centers. Through Hospital on Wheels, we are ensuring medical services, medicines, and checkups reach every station—every village—leaving no one behind.” He highlighted that the initiative targets underserved communities, reducing the need for long, arduous journeys to distant hospitals.
Recent camps, such as those held in Gundi Dharam on August 17 and Seripoora on August 29, served over 130 patients each, offering general OPD services, dental consultations, and health awareness sessions on schemes like JK SEHAT, PMJAY, and E-Sanjeevani. A camp at Village Ind in Medical Block Gool attended to over 160 patients, with 145 general OPD cases and 21 dental consultations, alongside generating 30 ABHA IDs.The initiative operates on a structured schedule, with medical teams visiting at least two villages daily, ensuring sustained outreach. “The response from the community has been overwhelming, and the demand for these services is growing,” DC Khan noted, underscoring the program’s success and the administration’s commitment to its expansion.
By bringing quality healthcare to the remotest corners of Ramban, Hospital on Wheels is redefining rural healthcare delivery, ensuring that medical services are not a privilege but a right accessible to all.
