Kashmir Ahead

Horticulture department empowers women under Lakhpati Didi Mission

Jammu, December 16,2025-In a significant move towards women’s empowerment and financial independence, the Horticulture Department of Jammu and Kashmir has launched a 30-day skill development training programme under the Prime Minister’s Lakhpati Didi Initiative. The programme aims to equip women with practical skills to generate sustainable livelihoods from local produce.

The training focuses on hands-on experience in preparing pickles, jams, jellies, juices, and other value-added horticultural products, enabling participants to convert agricultural produce into marketable commodities. Alongside practical skills, women are also imparted entrepreneurial knowledge, including marketing, packaging, and business management, to help them establish small-scale ventures successfully.

Officials highlighted that the initiative not only promotes self-reliance among women but also contributes to strengthening rural economies by encouraging local entrepreneurship. The programme is expected to create a positive impact on families and communities by empowering women to earn independently and make informed business decisions.

Through the Lakhpati Didi Mission, the Horticulture Department envisions fostering inclusive growth, enhancing skill sets, and promoting economic participation of women in Jammu and Kashmir’s rural sectors.
