ANANTNAG, April 23, 2025: Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah visited the Government Medical College (GMC) Hospital in Anantnag on Wednesday to inquire about the condition of those injured in the devastating Pahalgam terror attack. The attack, which took place on Tuesday in Baisaran meadows, Anantnag district, claimed 26 lives, predominantly tourists, and left several others wounded in one of the deadliest strikes in the region in recent years.
The leaders met with the injured, including tourists and locals, offering assurances of comprehensive medical care and government support. Amit Shah directed hospital authorities to provide the best possible treatment, with officials confirming that at least 12 injured tourists are in stable condition. Earlier in the day, the trio paid tributes to the deceased at the Srinagar Police Control Room, where they laid wreaths on the bodies of the victims, including Syed Adil Hussain Shah, a local pony ride operator who was killed while attempting to confront the attackers.
The Pahalgam attack, claimed by The Resistance Front (TRF), has sparked widespread outrage and led to a Kashmir-wide shutdown. Shah condemned the attack, vowing that the perpetrators, identified by code names Moosa, Yunus, and Asif, would face stringent action. Security forces have launched extensive operations, including increased checkpoints and patrols, to apprehend the attackers. The Jammu and Kashmir government has announced financial assistance, including ₹10 lakh for the families of the deceased, ₹2 lakh for those with serious injuries, and ₹1 lakh for those with minor injuries.
The attack has raised concerns about tourist safety in the Valley, prompting authorities to pledge enhanced security measures to protect visitors and residents. The visit by Shah, Sinha, and Abdullah underscores the government’s commitment to addressing the aftermath of the tragedy and restoring confidence in the region.
