Prominent shrines and mosques, including the revered Hazratbal Shrine, saw large gatherings of worshippers offering evening prayers and seeking blessings at the start of Ramazan.
Markets Witness Festive Rush
From Lal Chowk to downtown Srinagar, markets remained abuzz as people stocked up on dates, dry fruits, bakery items, and traditional delicacies for sehri and iftar. Vendors reported brisk business, especially in essentials and festive food items.
The demand for dates, juices, fried snacks, and bakery products saw a sharp rise, while shops selling prayer mats, caps, and Islamic literature also experienced increased footfall.
Spiritual Reflection and Community Bonding
Ramazan, the ninth month of the Islamic lunar calendar, is observed with fasting from dawn to dusk, increased prayers, charity, and acts of kindness. Families gather for sehri before sunrise and break their fast together at iftar, strengthening bonds of unity and compassion.
Religious scholars have urged people to use the holy month for self-reflection, patience, and helping the underprivileged.
Heightened Arrangements
Authorities have made special arrangements to ensure smooth traffic flow, adequate power and water supply, and market regulation during the month. Security has also been tightened around major mosques and shrines to facilitate peaceful prayers.
As Ramazan begins, the Valley embraces a renewed sense of faith and togetherness, with markets reflecting both the spiritual and festive spirit of the holy month.
