Kashmir , November 22,2025-Retired lecturer Manzoor Javaid, widely known as the ‘Herbal Man of Kashmir’, is transforming Achabal in south Kashmir into a growing hub of natural healing and herbal knowledge. On his two-kanal herbal garden, Javaid has cultivated over 150 species of medicinal plants, ranging from rare Himalayan herbs like Taxus wallichiana to a variety of exotic medicinal teas and therapeutic plants.
His garden has become a vibrant learning space for students, researchers, farmers and wellness enthusiasts who visit to understand the benefits, cultivation techniques and medicinal properties of these plants. Javaid says his mission is to promote holistic health, encourage local cultivation of high-value medicinal herbs, and revive traditional plant-based healing practices that have been part of Kashmir’s heritage for centuries.
By nurturing both common and endangered species, the ‘Herbal Man’ is also contributing to biodiversity conservation and creating livelihood opportunities for locals interested in herbal farming.
